LABORATORY PROCEDURES FOR MICROORGANISMS REFERENCE NO.: M/1998/2.09 TITLE: TRANSFER OF STRAIN DATA TO STRAIN DATABASE Basis of the strain database is the information supplied with the strain by the depositor. Additional information may be taken from the literature. For the input of strain data in the computer the MINE format is recommended (for fungi and yeasts see Gams et al., Journal of General Microbiology 134, 1667-1689, 1988; for bacteria see Stalpers et al., Systematic and Applied Microbiology 13, 92-103, 1990). The database entry must include a (European and national) risk classification of the strain (see M/1998/1.03; M/1998/1.05). With newly described species a preliminary risk classification is done by the collection staff by checking the original publication(s) or by contacting the national authorities for the risk classification of bacteria or fungi and yeasts.Following proof reading by the responsible scientist the strain data may be transferred to the catalogue database of the collection.
